I am a research professor at the Hamilton Institute, which is a research institute at the National University of Ireland Maynooth. For more work details, see my personal web pages at the institute.
Since I’m an academic, I don’t claim to know much about the nitty gritty of network admin or the business end of things. However, I do spend a lot of personal and professional time thinking about TCP congestion control algorithms, especially in trying to better understand how proposed/upcoming changes are likely to affect user experience and network behaviour. Most of the rest of my time is spent wrestling with 802.11 wireless networks and how to get the most out of them.
This blog is therefore mostly about TCP and 802.11 wireless networks – what developments/research seems interesting or important, or maybe just plain irritating or wrong.
I should emphasise that the usual disclaimer applies: all of the entries in this blog are my own opinion and most certainly not those of NUI Maynooth, or anyone else for that matter.
